I’m PR Lazy

I read this post and it sort of struck me. I’m really bad at making money. I thought of the few offers that I have received. I’m not a blogger who has a ton of offers coming into my mailbox, but I have had enough to know I must not be invisible.

But what’s the point of them?

I guess to make money and to give (insert product/company) some exposure. But I’m lazy. Like really lazy when it comes to blogging. And I have next to no follow through.

I had this one offer that wanted me to write a post and then stick a few links into it. Let’s get this straight. First of all, that means writing a post. Secondly, I’m sure that the post I write will not work for your links.

So then one day I decided to tell the Burger King order taker that my ass was big enough and I appreciated their offer of pie, but if I was going to have pie (insert link for at home health care here) it sure as hell was not going to be drive through pie.

This was my reply to them because I thought for sure it was spam.

Dear company X
I have no idea what this email means.
Those examples were not only not helpful, but not very good.
Which much mean that I’m not very good.
At least I know where I stand, thanks.

Jen

But then I heard back from them after I sent that. Oh. That was REAL?!
I’m pretty sure I just passed up an opportunity for money. I think. I might still be confused.

Then there was another offer for a totally legitimate company. I’ve even heard of this company. Heck, I have their phone app. How cool is that?

Then they sent me this “agreement contract” and honestly? It has 20 paragraphs. Twenty. I tried to read it. I did. Then there were words like “code” and “graphics” and I clicked out. If it was sent to me 140 at a time, I could deal. For now it just sits there in my inbox. Like little $$’s just staring at me.

I really admire how some bloggers are so put together with their side bar sponsors, “paid” posts and links, and whatever else I just don’t understand. Some of them even have pay pal accounts set up for their blogs. They’re like Blogging CEO’s.

Then there’s me.

Lazy.

My blog should just fire me now.

(I added my new PR info on a tab up top, surely the offers will come rolling in to sit in my inbox)

  1. I was reading about SEO (I had to google WTF that even means) and Google rank and it was exhausting. I seriously needed a nap after it but it was 11PM so I just went to bed and had nightmares because my page rank is only a 2 when others have a 3. I don't even know what any of this means.
My recent post Wordless Wednedsay – Oh no he didn't

  2. The idea of making money with my blog sounds great but I am pretty lazy as well so I doubt I ever will. I made an Adsense acct and it has produced nothing. Fail

  3. I'm not into it either. And I'm a former PR pro. My blog isn't about what products I like. I don't think Snickers really cares that I think they're awesome. And another confession: I don't even read sponsored posts by bloggers I like. Some REALLY good bloggers have gone a little too "sponsored" for me lately.

  4. Well you're doing something right, or whatever since I never ever ever get PR pitches. What you should do is just farm yours out to your less lazy friends…and make them split the swag with you. Then all you have to do it hit "forward" and sit back and collect the fruits of your non-labour :D

  5. i'm right there with you – people keep telling me i should market myself so i can make some money and get free stuff – yeah, $25 bucks here and there just isn't worth my time and the last thing my house needs is more "stuff" – i'll stick to just writing about my day-to-day life and pretending that millions of people read it!
My recent post what we have here is a failure to communicate

  6. I was contacted by someone at some kind of firm that does some kind of internet marketing. [I would say who they were but they didn't tell me either.] They emailed me to see if I'd like to add links [I guess for money although it was never offered] into I post I wrote about my mother dying of cancer. If I ever get around to adding a fancy PR tab like you did, I will stipulate that only those PR professionals with souls need apply.

    • That is terrible. Beyond terrible. Mine sent me two links to blogs as examples. I'm not judging the blogs but the posts they wrote to insert the links into? You could not pay me enough to do that to the 5 readers I might have here.

  7. Jen, you know, I just can't do i eithert.

I know some people do and it's money for them.

You know, but, I guess, if we wanted to, we would.

You stick to what you kick butt at : the twitter queen.

    It makes us all happy.
